Poseidon, the king of lobsters
This massive crustacean (a pink spiny lobster) was landed last September by the fishing boat Brittania around 200 miles south west of Newlyn . The spiny beast which measures close to 60 centimetres in length and tips the scales at 4.2 kilogrammes, was accidentally caught while the crew were fishing for stone bass on a wreck at a depth of 238 metres.
Its incredible dimensions has saved this monster from the pot and now it is on display at the Blue Reef Aquarium in Newquay.
The huge lobster has been named Poseidon by staff in honour of his size and strength.
However, unlike what many media have reported, Poseidon is not a record breaker. According to the Guinness of Records the biggest lobster ever recorded weighed in at 20 kilograms and stretched to 106 centimeters and was caught off eastern Canada in 1977. A real sea monster!
