Lake Amatitlan, canoeing in the green

We've already seen thick green waters due to algae bloom at least two times, speaking about Lake Chaohu and about Qingdao, the city that will host the sailing part of the Beijing 2008 Olympics. But the problem of the eutrophication is not only a Chinese problem at all. The picture above was taken by Bobby Haas, a photographer famous for its aerial photography, on the Lake Amatitlàn, Guatemala. The rowers are ploughing waters clearly full of algae and cyanobacteria due to the large quantities of untreated sewage and industrial waist arriving from Guatemala City.
Nevertheless the picture is undoubtedly esthetically really pleasent.. a good way to mix art with environmental awareness.
