The man who built Noah's Ark in Holland
What is the Ark (or its perfect replica...) for, moored in Holland??
Following in Noah's footsteps, Dutchman Johan Huibers is ready for any floods Holland may experience - thanks to his own special ark he built after a premonition of his homeland flooding... yes, it could remind you more or less the plot of the movie Evan Almighty... but this is for real!
Huibers built the replica of his 68 metres - three-quarters of the length of a football pitch, Noah's Ark with cedar and pine using modern tools .
"In 1992, I had a dream that Holland will become flooded. The next day, I found a book about Noah's Ark in the local bookshop, and since then, my dream has been to build the Ark," says Huibers.
Environmental campaigner Al Gore predicts low-lying Holland will flood in future due to global warming so Huibers' premonition could be more than a difficult digestion nightmare... What is for sure is that Mr.Huibers could even be a clairvoyant but for sure he is a business man infact after two years building the Ark, he opened its doors to the people in the town of Schagen, north Holland. Visitors were stunned. Life-size models of giraffes, elephants, lions, crocodiles, zebras, bison and other animals greet tourists. Then the ark started sailing to cities in Netherlands, Germany and Belgium carrying live and stuffed animals, as well as religious information.
