A horse trapped in the ice

A horse trapped in the iceDoug Oldiges, a farmer from rural Campbell County, came home Wednesday morning from a night of plowing snow and spreading salt and noticed that he hadn't seen his horse. He searched the 43-acre farm and found Pencil in the pond, stuck in the mud.
Pencil, a walking horse, was stuck in about four feet of water on a farm in the 7400 block of Mary Ingles Highway.
Nearly 40 firefighters worked in frigid temperatures to rescue it from the frozen pond. After about an hour, they pulled Pencil onto his side, slid him across the boards and onto the bank. The horse slowly stood up. Horses will sometimes exhaust themselves trying to get out, but Pencil stayed calm.
After the horse was freed from the pond, Oldiges tried to keep Pencil in the sun, where it was warmer than in the barn. Friends dried him off, covered him with blankets and gave the horse some hay. A veterinarian was also called to evaluate Pencil.
Oldiges, who has owned the horse since it was a colt and watched its birth at a neighbor's farm, said Pencil may have wandered to the pond looking for water because the heater on his water trough had stopped working.

Looking the pictures of this story I recalled another one about an entrapped horse:
